Pledge to support musicians working in the EU

The Musicians’ Union (MU) has revealed that it is asking UK MPs from all parties to sign up to a pledge to protect musicians working in the EU. The MU has been very vocal about the importance of protecting performers working across Europe. The union was in strong favour of staying in the EU and after the referendum took place, the MU announced that it would be fighting for musicians’ rights as the UK leaves the EU. In its latest statement, the MU is continuing to push for the Government to ensure its members are able to work as freely as possible around Europe post-Brexit. The pledge is as follows:

Most professional musicians and performers rely on touring and travelling for their careers and gigs are often organised at short notice. As some performers can be working in several different European countries over the course of a few days, the possible introduction of work permissions and/or visas for British musicians touring and working in Europe could be extremely detrimental.

I pledge to support professional musicians and performers in my constituency and to do all that I can to ensure [OR and will urge the Government to seek to negotiate a deal that will ensure] they can continue to be able to travel freely easily across Europe post-Brexit for time-limited activities such as touring and performing, without facing extra cost or red tape [OR with minimum administrative burdens].

To sign the pledge, or to find out more about the concerns and top priorities for musicians in the negotiations, MPs can drop-in to the Jubilee Room in Parliament on Wednesday 5th July, between 12.30 and 14.30.

Those who are unable to attend, but would like to confirm their support can do so by emailing Chloe Alexander, Performers Alliance APPG Coordinator, at chloe.alexander@outlook.com.
