Ghost Inside drummer walks again in rehabilitation after losing leg in crash

Andrew Tkaczyk had his right leg amputated below the knee after the band’s tour bus was involved in an accident in Texas in November. In the post he said: “Strengthening that ankle and calf muscles. One day at a time. Be strong.” He was released from hospital last month and is now having physiotherapy.

The drummer suffered rib and hip fractures, multiple spine vertebrae fractures and a minor head injury, as well as a shoulder injury, damaged ligaments and nerves in his shoulder and right hand.

He was also badly cut by broken glass and metal.

The Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, where Tkaczyk’s been getting physiotherapy, has released an interview with the drummer in which he talks about the band’s future.

The group’s frontman Jonathan Vigil was also released last month and is using one leg with the help of a walking frame.

He’s having another operation on his right knee and ankle and also needed his front teeth fixed after several were knocked out in the crash.

Guitarist Zach Johnson lost two toes in the accident outside El Paso as did a friend of the band who was travelling with them.

A web fundraising page was set up to help pay for their medical treatment, which has seen more than $150,000 (£105,000) pledged.

There’s a separate one which has raised £12,000 (£8,400) for the family of tour bus driver Greg Hoke, who lost his life along with the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash, Steven Cunningham.

The band’s record label, Epitaph, says that all proceeds from the group’s back catalogue will go directly to pay for hospital costs as well.

The Ghost Inside are an American metalcore band from LA.

The band is made up of singer Jonathan Vigil, guitarist Zach Johnson, bassist Jim Riley and drummer Andrew Tkaczyk.

They released their fourth studio album in 2014, Dear Youth, and had been due to play 10 dates on a UK tour last month, but they were all cancelled.
