Former Who Drummer Kenny Jones To Host Charity Concert

Former drummer of The Who, Kenneth Jones, is to host a charity event for prostate cancer after being recently diagnosed with the disease.

Acts confirmed so far for the Rock ‘n’ Horsepower concert, are Mike Rutherford from Genesis, John Lodge from the Moody Blues, Damon Hill and Procol Harum. More names are expected to be announced in the run up to the event which takes place on Saturday, June 14.

Kenny Jones was diagnosed in the summer of 2013 following a routine annual health check with his GP when a blood test revealed irregular high levels of prostate-specific antigen – a protein produced by the prostate gland.

Kenny Jones, who also played with The Faces, is now organising a concert at his Hurtwood Park Polo Club in Ewhurst to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

“Having been recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, Prostate Cancer UK has been a huge support in my diagnosis and recovery,” he said.

“I am excited to be holding this day to not only raise money but to raise awareness for them. One in eight men are affected by prostate cancer and it is time to fight back.”

“I have a number of very talented friends on board who are set to make this day a totally unique event.”

Kenny Jones has urged men to get themselves checked and to speak more freely about the subject which has often been regarded as taboo.

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer kills more than 10,000 men every year in the UK and over 40,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.

A complete understanding of the causes of prostate cancer remains elusive. The primary risk factors are obesity, age and family history. Prostate cancer is very uncommon in men younger than 45, but becomes more common with advancing age. The average age at the time of diagnosis is 70. However, many men never know they have prostate cancer.
