Royal Albert Hall to host largest ever Samba band attempt
The Royal Albert Hall is set to host a world record attempt for the largest Samba band in a b id to raise awareness of the plight of street children across the globe.
On March 3rd, over 1,500 children aged 7-16 from 27 London schools will take over the venue to bang the drum for the rights of street children and to break the official world record for the world’s largest Samba band.
The performance will mark the UK launch of the second Street Child World Cup (SCWC), which kicks of three weeks later in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, whereby up to 250 street-connected children from 19 countries will play football and highlight the issues facing street children the world over.
Commenting on SCWC, David Beckham, OBE, said: “I look forward to Brazil in 2014 when street children from around the world will play football and represent the millions of children who still live or work on our streets.”
All the instruments have been supplied by Contemporânea from Brazil, whose professional equipment is distributed in the UK by SVM Percussion.
