Redhill Drummer Celebrates Being One of the Top 10 in the Country

A young musician is celebrating after making it to the finals of the Young Drummer Of The Year 2014 competition.

Bradley Wool beat off thousands of other applicants from all over the country to make it in to the final ten of the competition.

Last week he battled it out with his fellow finalists, aiming to be crowned the best young drummer in the country.

And while he missed out on the top spot, the 16-year-old from Redhill said he was thrilled to have made it so far.

“The news of getting to the top 40 was great,” he said. “When I received the call to say I was in the top ten I was speechless, completely crazy, it’s amazing to be given this opportunity.

“My dream is to be a full-time session drummer.

“I live, breath and sleep drums. My dream is to inspire others and give the happiness it gives me.”

The youngster’s drumming career began aged two when instead of getting a rattle to play with, he was given a cowbell to keep time with the local steel band he watched.

His love of music reached a new level aged four when he received his first real drum kit. Since then he hasn’t looked back having performed at venues including The Royal Albert Hall; the Symphony Hall, Birmingham; the Barbican; and Earls Court.

But Bradley isn’t just a one instrument wonder adding guitar, bass, piano, steel pans and singing to his musical CV. He puts this to good use playing in three bands and teaching music in his spare time.

He added: “I’m into a lot of R&B and hip-hop. My first inspiration was Aaron Spears after watching his video of ‘caught up’, with his amazing grooves and chops around the kit.

“My other inspirational drummers are Tony Royster Jr, John Blackwell, Dave Weckl, Ramon Samson, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jojo Mayer and Buddy Rich.”
